Derek Hodgson
John Derek Hodgson was an Anglican priest in the last decades of the 20th century and the first of the 21st.
Born on 15 November 1931,〔"Hodgson, Ven. (John) Derek", ''Who Was Who'', A & C Black, 1920–2008; online edn, Oxford University Press, December 2008 (accessed 10 November 2012. )〕 he was educated at King James School, Bishop Auckland and St John's College, Durham. After a short service commission in the Durham Light Infantry he was ordained in 1954 and began his career with curacies in Hartlepool and Sunderland.〔Crockford's Clerical Directory 1959-60 p545〕 He held incumbencies at Stillington, Consett, and Gateshead before becoming Archdeacon of Auckland in 1983, serving〔(Durham Record Office )〕 for a decade. In 1993 he became Archdeacon of Durham〔''Church news'' The Times (London, England), 24 March 1993; p. 23.〕 and served for four years.〔"Church news", ''The Times'' (London, England), 9 January 1997; p. 18.〕
He died on 22 November 2007.〔(Obituary )〕
